Woodford
Woodford is a district in the London Borough of Redbridge. It is located around 9 miles from the centre of London. The large size of Woodford means that it is often split down into four distinct communities, each bringing something slightly different to the table.
Woodford Green is perhaps one of the most prominent of these communities, with the area playing host to one of the best athletics clubs in the United Kingdom. Not really surprising since the area is brimming with hiking, walking and cycling trails, many of which go through the stunning Epping Forest.
South Woodford has one of the larger retail districts in Woodford, although it is currently going through somewhat of a downturn. Most of the shopping can be found around George Lane, and herethere are several major chain stores as well as some smaller boutique ones. Close by is a seven screen cinema.
Woodford Wells is one of the smaller communities in Woodford, but it is quite prominent. It is home to Bancroft School and was the area where St. Aubyn’s School was founded. This school does offer beginner guitar lessons.
Woodford Bridge is equally small, with the bulk of the area being developed around the old Claybury Asylum, which closed down a few decades ago. This stunning building is now home to a swimming pool, among a few other amenities.
While Woodford is a significant distance outside of London, there are a lot of connections into the centre including a couple of London Underground Stations. This has resulted in Woodford being a prime location for people who work in the city, but do not wish to live among the hustle and bustle of city life. In fact, due to ancient laws, a lot of the area surrounding Woodford is still grazing land, which means that while you are here, you never really feel as if you are in London.
